Surrealism

Vladimir Kush was born in 1965 in Moscow, Russia. When he was seven, he started attending art school and when he was 17, he entered the Moscow Higher Art and Craft School but he was conscripted a year later. He went through six months of military training and after that, he decided he wanted to do more of some peaceful and propagandistic posters. He also went to the Institute of Fine Arts and to help out his family in hard times, he painted portraits. Also in the year 1990 in Germany, his works were sold that were out on display and he went to Los Angeles where his 20 works of art were put on display and that’s how he started his “American Odyssey”. Also, in Los Angeles, he drew portraits on the Santa Monica pier to earn money.

Maurice Tabard was born in 1897 in Lyon, France. He went to school at the Photographic Institute of New York from 1914 to 1920. Later on, he was hired at the Bachrach studio in Baltimore in 1922. To further her career, he moved to Paris in 1928. While he was there, he started taking photographs for a magazine and his works started appearing everywhere. Throughout the 1930s to the 1950s he kept experimenting with his art and that made him one of the most popular avant-garde photographers of the time.

Artist’s Name: Vladimir Kush

Title: Haven

Date: Unknown

Description: A sail boat sailing in the sky with boats behind it. There are clouds around them and the sun is in the background.

Analysis: The painting is bright and it’s a landscape painting. The focal point is the sail boat and this painting is using the rule of thirds because the sail boat isn’t directly in the middle, it’s more at the right.

Interpretation: I believe that this photo means that a person is sailing because they love doing it and that when they’re sailing and doing their favorite activity, it’s like heaven because everything out in the ocean looks beautiful to them and when they’re on the ocean, it’s like they’re the only ones there.

Judgment: I think that Vladimir Kush did a successful job on this painting. I like that every part of this image goes together and he made sure that everything in the sun’s way was bright and he made sure to put the shadows in the right spot.

Artist’s name: Maurice Tabard

Title: Untitled

Date: 1932

Description: A line of trees at the side of what appears used to be a sidewalk but was been turned into to what looks like a stream or a small river.

Analysis: This photo is a leading line photograph because the water in this leads your eye through the trees and to the back of the photo.

Interpretation: I believe this photo is an example of peace. I think the artist is trying to show that all of his worries are being washed away and he is now in a more peaceful, happier place.

Judgment: I think he was successful in creating this photograph. I like how he made the photograph a leading line because it creates the feeling of happiness in my opinion.

These two artists have different art styles. In Vladimir Kush's work, you can see that he plans out exactly what he wants to show us ion his work and makes sure that everything looks great. And in Maurice Tabard's work, you can see that he also plans out his work. You can see that he planned out the leading line and how he would put the water in this photograph. Even though the artists have different styles, they are both great.
